How to use LinkedOption with Shopify Sidekick
LinkedOption works with Shopify Sidekick, so you can ask questions and prepare common tasks in natural language—without searching through every app screen.
Important: Sidekick can read LinkedOption data and prepare forms or action links. It does not silently save, publish, run, or delete anything. You review and confirm changes inside LinkedOption.
Before you start
- Install and set up LinkedOption in your Shopify store.
- Make sure Shopify Sidekick is available in your Shopify admin.
- Open Sidekick from the Shopify admin, then describe what you want to find, check, or prepare.
- You do not have to memorize exact commands. Use normal, specific language and include a product, group, option, or rule name when possible.
How the workflow works
Example prompt: Find my LinkedOption product groups and show their types and sync status.
Example: Find product groups
Ask Sidekick in English:
Find my LinkedOption product groups and show their types and sync status.

Sidekick returns the product-group name, group type, option names, product count, and sync status. Review the table before asking for more details about a specific group.
- Ask Sidekick a question or describe a task.
- Sidekick uses LinkedOption to retrieve the relevant data or prepare a destination page.
- Review the result. For changes, Sidekick opens a prefilled LinkedOption page.
- Confirm in LinkedOption before anything is saved, run, published, or deleted.
What you can do
1. Find and inspect product groups
Search linked product groups and combined listings by group title, option name, product title, product handle, group type, publication status, or sync status. You can also ask for details about one group, including its products, option values, templates, and Shopify sync status.
Try asking:
Find the LinkedOption product group that contains “Classic T-shirt”.
Show my draft multi-option product groups.
Is the “Summer Colors” group synced with Shopify?
2. Create a product group from Shopify products
Ask Sidekick to prepare a single-option, multi-option, or subcategory product group from existing Shopify products. It can prefill the group title, option names, option values, product assignments, styles, colors, and images when the required information is available.
Sidekick opens the prepared draft in LinkedOption. Check the selected products and option assignments, then save it yourself.
Try asking:
Create a single-option product group from these products. Use “Color” as the option and assign Red, Blue, and Black.
Group these phone cases by Color and Type as a multi-option group.
Create a subcategory group with “Men” and “Women” sections from these products.
3. Diagnose missing options or swatches
Sidekick can check common display problems, including:
- Whether LinkedOption is enabled
- Product-group and template availability
- Shopify synchronization failures
- Collection-page settings
- Market filtering
- Theme setup links
Try asking:
Why are my LinkedOption swatches not showing on the product page?
Diagnose why linked options are missing from collection cards.
4. Review option styles, swatches, and templates
Search option names and swatch values, list button/color-swatch/image-swatch/dropdown templates, and inspect the current display configuration. Sidekick can prepare links for changing product-page templates, product-card styles, or swatches.
Try asking:
Which templates use color swatches?
Find the swatch value “Navy”.
Help me change the Color option to image swatches.
5. Check settings and open the right setup page
Sidekick can return the current context and the correct LinkedOption page for:
- App status
- Collection-page swatches
- Market filtering
- Custom styling
- Advanced settings
- Theme setup
- Translations
- API access
- Seamless option switching
Try asking:
Is LinkedOption enabled on my store?
Open the collection swatch settings.
Help me set up seamless option switching.
6. Work with automation rules
Sidekick can list existing automation rules, show their latest run details, and prepare pages for creating or editing rules. Automation matching can use product titles, SKUs, tags, metafields, or collections, including multi-option rules.
You can specify:
- Matching pattern or regular expression
- Option names and value sources
- Product scope by collection, status, tag, product type, or vendor
- Manual or daily schedule
- Draft or Active status for newly created groups
- How existing groups and assigned products should be handled
Try asking:
List my LinkedOption automation rules and show the latest run status.
Prepare a rule that groups products by the title pattern “{{group_name}} - {{variant_name}}” and uses Size as the option.
Open the history for my product-title automation.
Sidekick only prepares the rule or the relevant action page. Review the summary carefully before saving, running, or deleting anything.
7. Check split-product jobs and translations
Ask for the status of jobs that split Shopify variants into separate products and link them as a product group. You can also review translation coverage for a locale or market and check the latest AI translation task.
Try asking:
Show failed split-product jobs.
What is the French translation coverage for my product groups?
8. Find LinkedOption help articles
Sidekick can search LinkedOption documentation for setup, product groups, option styles, swatches, automation, API, themes, integrations, billing, translations, and troubleshooting.
Try asking:
Find the LinkedOption guide for displaying options on collection pages.
Show troubleshooting articles for missing swatches.
Tips for better results
- Mention LinkedOption when your request could apply to several apps.
- Include exact product, group, option, template, or automation names.
- Say whether you want to check, find, diagnose, or prepare a change.
- For product-group creation, state the group type and desired option names.
- For automation, provide the matching source, pattern, product scope, and schedule.
- Review all prefilled products, values, scopes, and behaviors before saving.
What Sidekick will not do automatically
LinkedOption’s Sidekick integration is designed to keep you in control. It does not directly:
- Save or publish product groups
- Change settings or option styles
- Run or delete automation rules
- Bypass Shopify or LinkedOption confirmation screens
When a request would change store data, Sidekick gives you a relevant LinkedOption link or a prefilled draft so you can review and confirm the final action.
Need more help?
Ask Sidekick to search LinkedOption help documentation, or contact LinkedOption support from the app if the returned diagnosis does not resolve the issue.
